20 Surprising Uses for Salt

1. Pick up a dropped egg. If an egg breaks on the kitchen floor, sprinkle salt on the mess and leave it there for 20 minutes. You'll be able to wipe it right up.

2.Soothe a bee sting. Wet the sting right away, then cover it with salt.

3.Eliminate a grease fire. Pour salt on top to smother it. (Never use water on a grease fire.)

4.Clean up oven spills. If food boils over onto the oven floor, sprinkle salt on top to stop smoke and odor from forming. When the oven is cool, it'll be easy to brush away the spot.

5.Set color. If a dye may run, soak the garment for an hour in 1/2 gallon of water to which you've added 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup salt. If rinse water shows color, repeat. This is good for a single-colored fabric or madras. If the item is multicolored, dry-clean it. (

6.Kill poison ivy. Add three pounds of salt to a gallon of soapy water. Spray it onto leaves and stems.

7.Make cream whip more easily and egg whites whip faster and higher. Add a pinch of salt.

8.Test for rotten eggs. Put an egg in a cup of water to which you've added two teaspoons of salt. A fresh egg will sink, but one that's iffy will float.

9.Clean the brown spots (from starch) off a nonstick soleplate (the bottom of your iron). Sprinkle salt on a sheet of waxed paper, slide the iron across it, then rub lightly with silver polish.

10.Repel fleas. Wash the doghouse with it.

11.Kill grass growing in cracks in the cement or between patio stones. Sprinkle salt on the grass and pour very hot water over it. Or sprinkle coarse salt on the grass, let stand all day or overnight, then pour hot tap water over it.

12.Clean a glass coffee pot. Fill it with 1/4 cup of table salt and a dozen ice cubes. Swish the mixture around, let it sit for half an hour, fill it with cold water and rinse.

13.Halt the mountain of suds from an overflowing washing machine. Sprinkle salt on the top.

14.Clean artificial flowers. Put them in a bag of salt and shake the bag. Take a look at the color of the salt and you'll see what you've accomplished.

15.Keep windows frost-free. Dip a sponge into salt water and rub it on windows, and they won't frost up even when the mercury dips below 32 degrees; for the same effect on your car's windshield, put salt in a little bag made of cheesecloth, moisten it slightly and rub it on.

16.Clean tarnished copper. Fill a 16-ounce spray bottle with hot white vinegar and three tablespoons of salt. Spray it onto the copper, let it sit briefly, then rub clean. (Don't do this to lacquered copper.)

17.Keep radishes safe in the garden. Salt worms (cutworms) will be repelled if you sprinkle seeds with table salt, then cover with dirt.

18.Clean coffee and tea stains from china cups. Rub them with salt.

19.Keep potatoes and apples from turning brown once they're sliced. Put them in salted cold water.

20.Clean a cutting board. Cover it with bleach and salt, scrub it with a stiff brush, then rinse with very hot water and wipe with a clean cloth. Repeat with each use.

TIPS TO BEAT THE HEAT

With the daytime temperature rising as high as 49C, mothers try to stop their children from stepping out of their air-conditioned homes.

My advice would be ---
Try to encourage your children to drink more water!!
Let them carry an umbrella or wear a cap/hat while going out!!
Boys could wear sleeveless shirts or cotton clothing during the summer!!
Apply sunscreen lotion while going out!!
Get them to eat more juicy fruits, cucumbers, watermelons, drink more fruit juice or buttermilk etc!!
Avoid fried food as much as you can!!!
In addition,we should pay attention to their shoes, prefer sandals or open cut shoes rather than closed ones!!!

JOIN EEG IN CRUSHING CANS

People in Dubai are being urged to crush their cans and send them for recycling as part of a nationwide campaign to slash waste and cut energy consumption.

Emirates Environment Group (EEG) is aiming to recycle 15,000kg of aluminium between May and September and is appealing to everyone from school children to chief executives to back the Can Collection Drive (CCD) All residents have to do is collect their drinks cans and deposit them in special skips at Dubai Airport Free Zone, Zabeel Park and Ibn Buttuta Mall.

EEG also needs thousands of volunteers to step forward and help the drive by knocking on the doors of shops, cafes and restaurants and offering to take their cans away to be recycled. EEG chairman Habitat Al Marashi said the scheme already has the backing of schools but needs more corporate support. “We are trying to instill the importance of recycling and a sense of responsibility in the younger generation,” she said. “We have a lot of support from schools but we also want to spread the message to the community at large.”

The EEG’s can drive is now in its 12th year.

OPEN HOUSE AT MY SON'S SCHOOL

Yesterday was the parent-teacher meeting called OPEN HOUSE to collect the child's report card for the Final Exams.
We did not want to be caught up in the rush, so we really reached school by 7a.m and paid the School and bus fees, where we were among the first ones. Then went to class, waited for the teacher, she came in around 7.40a.m.
Since there were 2 more parents before me, it did not take much time to finish our turn.
My son had got full attendance Certificate.
He had done quite well in his exams also, he was sick during the exams so I had fear of how he would have done.
I finished all my work by 8a.m and was back home by 8.30.
Since the climate was cool and nice, went shopping to get my son's school shoes, took a video CD and saw a nice movie in the afternoon.
I had already bought off the school books and covered them a day ahead, as I had got the list from another friend.
So,now I am relaxed, just waiting for school to start.
It has been raining on and off for the past few days.Hope the climate changes soon.

WASH THEM FIRST-----BEWARE!!!!!

WASH THEM FIRST

This is Serious! This incident happened recently in North Texas .
A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of coke which she put into the refrigerator of the boat. On Monday she was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. She died on Wednesday.

The autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was traced to the can of coke she drank from, not using a glass. Tests showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine and hence the disease Leptospirosis.
Rat urine contains toxic and deathly substances. It is highly recommended to thoroughly wash the upper part of all soda cans before drinking out of them. The cans are typically stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned.

A study at NYCU showed that the tops of all soda cans are more contaminated than public toilets (i.e).. full of germs and bacteria. So wash them with water before putting them to the mouth to avoid any kind of fatal accident.

Please forward this message to all the people you care about.

GOOD MORNING

I just went for a walk and returned. The cool breeze seemed very refreshing to me.But as I was taking my walks, I noticed how an elderly couple (around their 50's)walked hand in hand, talking to each other and enjoying every moment with each other.

I was happy to notice that the husband still showed love and affection for his wife.
You may be wondering what is so great in all this, but I feel a lady should be treated very well by her husband, for whom she has left her family, some even their identity.

Good to see small events that make me happy even in this period of crisis and recession.
LADIES, HAVE A NICE DAY

HAPPY WOMEN'S DAY

I WISH ALL MY WOMEN READERS A HAPPY WOMEN'S DAY.

EXPERIENCE IS PRICELESS

A giant ship engine failed. The ship's owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure but how to fix the engine.

Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was a young. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom.

Two of the ship's owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed!

A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars.

"What?!" the owners exclaimed. "He hardly did anything!"

So they wrote the old man a note saying, "Please send us an itemized bill."

The man sent a bill that read:

Tapping with a hammer....... ......... ........ $ 2.00
Knowing where to tap.......... .......... ...... $ 9, 998.00

Moral of the story - Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort makes all the difference!

"Life is short. Share your smiles. Forget your grudges. Respect and
cherish everyone you see today. Remember tomorrow may never come!"

" Content makes poor men rich, discontent makes rich men poor."

FAST FACTS

Swapping 16 incandescent bulbs for compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) saves emissions equivalent to taking a car off the road for a year.

A leaky faucet can waste up to 20 gallons of water per day, and a leaking toilet can waste up to 200 gallons a day.

If you replace just one out of four of your light bulbs with fluorescents, you can save about 50% on your lighting bill.

Almost 40% of World's waste is paper and could be recycled, meaning fewer trees cut down.

HIGH COST OF LIVING?????

With the financial crisis going on, the men around have no peace of mind, going out of home in the early hours of morning and coming home late. Many are thrown out of their jobs all of a sudden. Some dont have the means to go back to their homeland. Housewives stay at home all alone only to find themselves going into depression. They are not in a siutation to even question their husband of the happenings around because of the prevailing tension going on.

The situation is going quite out of control when here the houseowners want to increase the rent by twice the amount, the schools want to increase their fees by90%, which is very unfair. When the petrol prices has gone down, why do the schools think of increasing their bus fees or in other words, use the new scheme of OUTSOURCING THE SCHOOL TRANSPORT FACILTY.

THIS IS UNFAIR.

Where is humanity gone? Not everything is calculated in terms of business.
